When you hear the newscaster saying that there is a storm coming and that people need to get prepared for it, the first thing we think about is that storm is not coming this way. Half the time, those meteorologists are not accurate and the storm usually sways another direction. But what happens when that storm heads to your location and hits your home; what do you do then?
Storms can cause major havoc in our lives. We have to make sure that we are prepared for the storm before it shows up, but usually we are reactive instead of proactive. We tend to wait till the storm has shown up before we start thinking about what we need and what we should do to protect ourselves from it.
The
storms of life will have you in fear and unaware of the outcome once is
subsides. We tend to make decisions out of desperation instead of waiting for
the Lord to speak to us while we are going through.
During the storm, we need to seek God and have faith that no matter what we are going through, he will protect us from the storm. God can give us the peace that we need to endure the storm, but we have to keep our minds stayed on Him.
If we keep focused on God, instead of the storm, He will surely hear the petitions of our heart and will give us a peace that surpasses all understanding. God gives you a peace that allows you to deal with the storm in a way that does not affect your daily activities. It is a peace that gives you a hope knowing that no matter how strong the winds are blowing, you will be able to stand and endure it. This peace transcends anything that we could ever imagine; to the point that others would not even be aware that you are undertaking a storm.
In addition to having peace during the storm, you must have faith that the storm will not overtake you; knowing that the storm has a purpose in your life. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). So God knows we will have storms in life, but those storms do not have to control us! We are overcomers and can do all things through Christ, who gives us strength through any storm we are dealing with. We have the power to go through anything and come out of it victoriously. That is why God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Tim 1:7). We have the same power that He has living inside of us, but we must learn how to tap into that power.
The are a couple of ways you can tap into God's power:
- Spend time with God through his word.
- Seek God daily through prayer.
- Repent of your sins and forgive others who have also sinned against you.
- Get involved in a bible based church where you can hear the word of God and fellowship with other believers.
- Be still and learn to hear God's voice speaking to you.
- Love others as God loves you.
Today's scriptures to meditate on:
- Isaiah 26:3 (ESV) -You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
- Hebrews 11:6-And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
- Romans 8:11-And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
You have the power and are equipped to endure any storm that comes your way. As long as you keep God first place in your life, he will give you a peace that will not be able to steer you away from God's purpose for your life.
